Strength Training

As you read this you might be thinking "Why strength training? I don't want to be a weight lifter!"
If you play sport, ride a bike, run, swim or want to get in shape, there are huge benefits to be gained from strength training.
Strength training differs greatly from muscle building. Many of the resistance training programs found in the large health clubs are geared towards body-building - the very type of training that will result in 'bulking up'.
Strength training can significantly improve your sporting performance. It will make you stronger, faster, more resilient to injury and give you an edge over the opposition. Many people who enjoy endurance sports such as cycling, running or swimming see a dramatic improvement in their ability after a period of strength training.
It is also an excellent way for women to train without bulking up, giving firm, toned muscles instead of bigger muscles. It can also help improve your posture, keeping you more aligned.
The longer you have been training the more complex your strength programming probably needs to be. Simply trying to lift more each week in a given exercise will make you stronger for a while, but after a few months more varied programming is key to improvement. Variety of sets, repetitions, speed of lifting and variation in exercises will all promote ongoing strength gains.
Strength training isn't advisable for beginners. But working with you we can design a series of programs to take you from where you are - to a stronger, more efficient body.
